The Hammond Lane Metal Company, established in 1898 is Ireland’s leading metal
recycling company and in 2013 they developed their Dublin 4 site to accommodate
the recycling of non-ferrous metals.

The new purpose-built recycling and breakdown facility was completed in three
phases of works commencing with the introduction of infra-structure for the
development which included a 3,275 cubic meter attenuation tank together with
3no. 1750L Klargester Retention Separators and an 18.5m x 3.5m weighbridge.

Phase 2 included the construction of 3,500 sq.m of purpose-built recycling buildings together with the installation of underground service and drainage facilities and the surfacing of a 3,100 sq.m of a 350mm thick concrete yard.

Phase 3 included the commissioning of all systems and the construction of a 400 sq.m office/operation center to facilitate the administration sector of the business.

The scope included large excavation and blinding to foundations. Excavation to facilitate a large attenuation system in the yard area along with 2 petrol interceptors and concrete in-situ yard including bund wall around the perimeter of the site to contain any toxic spillage. Excavation of trenches and installation of underground drainage and services.

While a lot of soil was retained on site for backfilling, following a conducted survey from a ACM specialist we discovered contaminated soil in one area of the facility. This material was removed responsibly by an appropriate specialist, which resulted in the haulage being transported to a licensed hazardous waste facility for treatment disposal.
